Hoe onderhoud je jouw fietsaccu in de zomer?

How do you maintain your bicycle battery in the summer?

Is the weather perfect for a wonderful summer cycling holiday on your electric bike? Then everyone must be well prepared, even when it comes to your battery. We give four useful tips for maximum battery life in the summer.

It is known that the battery of your e-bike performs optimally between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius. In colder weather, capacity - and therefore range - decreases. At temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius, we recommend storing the bicycle in the shade. Misuse shortens the battery lifespan and we want to prevent that, which is why we give four tips for the summer for your e-bike battery!

1. Make sure the battery does not get too hot.
As mentioned before: beware of extremely high temperatures. Heat activates chemical processes that can destroy the battery. You must therefore always ensure that the temperature of the battery does not exceed 40 degrees Celsius. And don't leave your bike in direct sunlight!

2. Make sure that your bicycle battery is never empty
This can happen if the battery is discharged deeper than the minimum permitted battery voltage. If this happens, you will no longer be able to use this. The battery system needs to be repaired (BMS reset). So always make sure that you recharge the bicycle battery as quickly as possible. Or even better: always keep the bicycle battery well charged. It is ideal to charge the battery at least once a month, even if you do not use the bicycle for a while.
Please note that it is best to store the battery with a charge between 20 and 80 percent.

3. Store the bicycle battery in a dry place
Always store your e-bike battery at room temperature (10-20 C°) and in a dry environment. Preferably in the house and certainly NOT in a damp shed. Do not store your e-bike battery empty, as described in point 2.
Do not store the battery next to a heating system.

4. Make maximum use of your bicycle battery
The range can be influenced by simple measures during daily use:

  • Don't rely on excessive support.
  • Use maximum support 2 or 3 when cycling away from a standstill.
  • Ride in a light gear.
  • Cycle at a constant speed as much as possible.
  • Braking and accelerating takes a lot of energy.
  • Ensure good tire pressure (for Aprum and Colosseo 1.5 Bar front tire, 1.7 Bar rear tire).
